Thinking...

I had an amazing day at work on Friday.  Honestly everyday I go into a school and work with children it is an amazing day.  Let me tell you what was special about this particular day...

It was a job that was unexpected.  Subbing jobs have been sparse over the last couple of weeks.  With days off from the storm and the national elections teachers I expected that elementary positions would be few and far between.  When I spotted what was listed as a 3rd grade position at South I jumped at the opportunity.  Third grade at South is where I began my teaching career.  The school has gone through many changes however there are familiar faces to see.  My dear friend and former co teacher is South's art teacher.  I was thrilled to be placed in her art room for the morning.  I helped her prep for each class and supported the students with their work as needed.  The business of the morning made the time just disappear.  At noon I moved on to my 4th grade assignment.  It turned out that the teacher I was covering for looped with her third grade class and it was there that coverage was needed.  First let me tell you that her classroom was impeccable.  It felt open, airy and comfortable.  It was clear that the students worked well with each other.  The afternoon was as near to perfect as it could be.  At the end of the day the class had free time.  I spent the time writing a brief note to the teacher and I was pleasantly surprised by a visit from a former first grade student and his Mom.  He is in his 20's now with his associates degree.  He is a musician and attending Berkley College of Music.  What a delight.  I remember him as a first grader like it was yesterday.  His mom works as a para professional at South and I have run into her several times.   Just when I thought the day could not get any better; several of the girls from the class presented me with an enormous book that they created during their free time.  It declared that I am the best sub ever.  Ahhhhh. Truly moments like these remind me why I love teaching.  There is such a level of appreciation and caring from children when you treat them with the same.  It truly is rewarding.  I am thankful for my work.

Peace!

Thanks Alicia! I am blessed. Now I just have to practice being patient as I wait for a full time position to open.

Peace!
