Friday Fill Ins

And...here we go!

1. How in the world did I end up with a 13 and 11 year old?  It seems like just yesterday when they I was taking them to preschool!  Yikes.

2. I have my whole life in front of me.

3. Life's a beach.

4. Crusty ciabatta bread,  yummy cheese, crispy grapes and thin sliced salami mmmmm the perfect picnic lunch.

5. That was where we spent time getting to know each other.

6. The beach over at 40 M I think of as "our place".

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing without any sleepovers or playdates in the future, tomorrow my plans include final preparations for the storm and Sunday, I want to if possible get some shots of the surf.

Peace!

Simple Woman's Daybook 34

Outside my window...it is sunny and breezy.

I am thinking...that I would much prefer the hurricane to completely miss the eastern coast of US.  I am not looking forward to riding this one out!

I am thankful for...my family and my good life.

From the kitchen...good meals this week!   Chicken, rice and asparagus, scallops, mashed potatoes and broccoli...yumm.  Tonight will be simple hot dogs and hamburgs.

I am wearing...my pink flowery pjs.... so comfortable and cool...just like two weeks ago! clearly they are my favorite!

What I'm creating: not much... I should be creating an emergency plan for the upcoming storm... perhaps I'll work on that this afternoon.

I am going...to  go with N for a walkthrough of his school so that we can find his classroom for 7th grade.  Maybe n and I will go and check out her school today as well.

I am reading...The Hunger Games, finally!  It took me a while to sit down and start, but so far it is quite interesting.

I am hearing...If These Walls Could Talk...love this show.

Around the house...I should be prepping for the storm.  I'll need to secure everything that is outdoors and collect important items to have handy inside.  I hope we don't lose our electricity.

One of my favorite things...is the quiet of the early morning.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  a sleepover for n, maybe some touchup work over at 40M, walking Flicka, a visit to the beach before the hurricane changes it once again.

Here are pictures I am sharing..

Texture Tuesday on Wednesday!

School Days!

This weeks challenge was to come up with an image for the theme back to school.  I have to say I almost didn't post this week as I am so sad that the summer is coming to an end and I am not ready for school to start up again.  Then I found the following image in my files and thought I just had to use it to create something!

For this image I started by duplicating the original and then tweaking the levels.  Next I added two layers of warm sun soft light 78% (KK texture) and finally I added the text school daze in chalkduster font.

Peace!

Shadow Shot Sunday

Well I'm starting a new Sunday meme.  I love playing with shadows in my photography and recently I visited a blog that participated in Shadow Shot Sunday and it inspired me to join in the fun!  If you'd like to see more check out the link on my sidebar.

I took these photos for a specific Texture Tuesday project.  I was pleasantly surprised by the shadows and light play in each of the images.  I am happy to include them in my first Shadow Shot post!   These are pieces that hold special meaning for me as some were my Mum's and other pieces were pieces that went with a wedding gift my MIL received when she married.

40 M Update!

Another update over at Restoring The House That Built Me!  Come on over and check it out.

Simple Woman's Daybook 33

Outside my window...it is sunny and calm.  The dappled sunshine is beautiful on the green leaves that have filled in the back yard.

I am thinking...that in the world of home renovations men take advantage of women and most workers don't care about the job... only their money.

I am thankful for...the fact that our renovation project at 40 M is almost done, although I am worried that the flooring is going in the wrong way and they should fix it but won't.

From the kitchen...steak tips are marinated and n and her buddy made chocolate chip cookies yesterday.

I am wearing...my pink flowery pjs.... so comfortable and cool...just like two weeks ago! clearly they are my favorite!

What I'm creating: not much... plans for the first weeks of school have to be created.

I am going...to  take puppy for a walk on the beach, go check out the shark in the tank at Jones River Landing and take stock to see what we all need before we go back to school.

I am reading...nothing right now even though I really want to start the  new series The Hunger Games.  N has already read the first book and is about to begin the second.

I am hearing...the Today Show.

Around the house...always cleaning to do and organizing to accomplish.  I'd like to have things more organized before school starts in 9 days.

One of my favorite things...is the quiet of the early morning.

A few plans for the rest of the week:   well it is the end of the week.... I'm planning on walking puppy,  getting plenty of rest and returning to my early morning wake ups.

Here are pictures I am sharing..

Peace!

Texture Tuesday

This week is movie week at Texture Tuesday!  Somehow we were to incorporate our favorite movie or probably any movie we enjoy in our entry.  Well for me this was an easy choice.  My all time favorite movie is White Christmas.  One of my all time photos is an image taken a couple of winters ago of my absolute favorite tree at the end of my driveway.  Sadly this tree was damaged this past winter so it does not quite look the same.   So clearly I had to incorporate both of my favorites this week.

I started by duplicating my image and working with the levels and adjusted them accordingly.  I applied several of Kim Klassen's textures.  I started with a layer of canvas majic, screen 100%.  I also added a text layer before adding canvasback, normal 31%.  Finally, I wanted the image to have a more vintage feel simply because the movie is from the 50's so I added a layer of framit  on multiply 53%.   I'm pleased with the results.

Mellow Yellow Monday

Well it's anything but yellow today!  Much more of a gray day.  Lot's of rain that does not improve my blue mood.  I have been quiet here for the past few days.  Just trying to manage life and it's various crisis.

I am happy to say that I had a wonderful visit with my cousin T last Friday and that was the highlight of the weekend.  Not much else good to say about the weekend.  It was hectic and full of 40 M details.

So considering that my mood is blue and the day is gray I'm going to pull out some of my old favorite yellow shots that make me happy.  Hope you enjoy.

Wordless Wednesday

Well this is going to be more wordy than most 'Wordless' posts.  August is a bittersweet month for me for countless reasons.  The month marks n's birthday, R's birthday, my sister D's birthday it also marks the end of the summer, my mother in laws death, the beginning of my Dad's decline and his birthday.  I do my best to just live in the moment.  Yesterday I was thrust back into the past by an unlikely delivery man.  I placed my first order with Stop & Shop's Peapod and the order came yesterday morning.  I went outside to greet the driver.  As soon as he saw me he asked if I recognized him... I was completely perplexed.  I took a good look and honestly didn't have any idea who this man could be...He went on to say that he helped to move me and R into this house some 19 years ago!  I asked if he was an old friend of R's and finally he revealed that he is an old friend of my MIL.  When he said his name I recognized him immediately.  What a small world to have this man show up at my home.  It's funny how the universe works sometimes.  So I thought today I would share a photo of my MIL but sadly while I have many printed photos I can't seem to find any digital pics of her on my computer.  I do however have a video that we made several years ago in honor of her at Mother's Day, so I'll share it again now.  She was an amazing woman and I miss her dearly.

Peace!

Texture Tuesday

The dragonfly is such a small creature but it has great spiritual meaning.  I love the warm weather that brings these beautiful creatures to my yard.

Kim's scripted edges and start textures helped to create this look.

Peace!
