Our Word View - Autumn

What is Our Word View?  A collaboration between two friends who lost touch over the years but have reconnected online.  We share a love of the ocean, photography, quotes, animals and family.  Often times our photographic interpretations of our word of the week are very similar.

This week I chose the word autumn for our photographic interpretation.  I hope you will go over to Our Word View and see what Liz shares this week.

I am always saddened by the passing of the flowers.  When the last of my summer blossoms go to seed I know that it is truly autumn.

Saturday Fun

Well I have been slacking off a bit here!  :(  I'm off to a wedding this afternoon.  My little cousin J is getting married.  I am certain she will be a beautiful bride.

I'll have n take a picture of me before I head out and I'll add it here.... as long as it comes out decent.

Things have been busy.  Subbing has been going well.  I'm booked for three days next week.  It is good to know in advance where I will be going.

Well that is all for now.

Peace!

Daybook

Outside my window...the sky is brightening.

I am thinking...that it will be good to walk with my bfl today.  We have not walked together all week!

I am thankful for...the opportunity to experience so many different classroom environments through my substitute teaching position.

From the kitchen...plans for healthier choices.  I'm trying anyway.

I am wearing....my pj's, it is still early.

I am creating...possibilities for a better future.

I am going...to get my own classroom.

I am wondering...why I am a dweller.

I am reading...a new book after finishing The Memory Book(great read!).

I am looking forward to...fall holidays!

I am learning... that sometimes I talk too much.  ;)

Around the house...things are messy yet again but I am on it once I finish this post.

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things ... Flicka's unique relationship with each of her people.

A few plans for the rest of the week: planning for teaching art on Monday, preparing for the wedding on Saturday, open house at N's school tonight and working over at the other house at some point.

A photo I'm sharing:

Texture Tuesday - Partings

Autumn is here to stay!  This week at Texture Tuesday we were charged with sharing any image as long as it has been textured with Kim's texture partings.  I used partings on these images of grape vine leaves.  I love the shape of these leaves.  The original images were quite saturated with green from the background.  Using partings on soft light totally changed the feel of my images.  I love them!  Be sure to go to Kim's blog to see what other photo enthusiasts create with Kim's partings texture.

Our Word View - Wood

What is Our Word View?  A collaboration between two friends who lost touch over the years but have reconnected online.  We share a love of the ocean, photography, quotes, animals and family.  Often times our photographic interpretations of our word of the week are very similar.

This week Liz chose the word wood for our photographic interpretation.  I hope you will go over to Our Word View and see what Liz shares this week.

A few years ago I went on a photo walk with my cousin T.  We hiked to a local beach that is part of a state park.  We had many wonderful opportunities to capture nature at it's fines.  Several of my pictures revolved around drift wood and old beach trees.  Such beauty.

On our walk we came across dead wood, live wood, drift wood, small wood, large wood and adorned wood.  All of it was from nature and each piece more beautiful than the last.

Texture Tuesday - Orange

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today over at Kim's Texture Tuesday our guidelines this week were to use at least one layer of any of her textures and to focus on the color orange.  I have some great fall holiday orange shots in my vast collection of photos but I just couldn't go there quite yet.  I'm still hanging onto the carefree days of summer, even though we are all back in school and the weather seems to be changing!  I took the following images earlier this summer.  You can see some of the originals here.  I love this little butterfly weed flower.  It is bright and cheerful and screams summer to me!  I used just one layer of Kim's water stained frame on each image on soft light.  I love the dreamy quality the texture adds to my pictures.

Our Word View-Travel

What is Our Word View?  A collaboration between two friends who lost touch over the years but have reconnected online.  We share a love of the ocean, photography, quotes, animals and family.  Often times our photographic interpretations of our word of the week are very similar.

This week Liz chose the word travel for our photographic interpretation.  I hope you will go over to Our Word View and see what Liz shares this week.

This is one of my favorite images from our trip to Washington DC last summer.  It was an amazing trip.  n, my sister D and C and D's grands all stayed together in a double room.  We had great weather and so much fun.  This is a picture of a section of the ceiling in Union Station.  The station was like a city unto itself.  It held many connections for me as my Dad would roll into that station on a regular basis when I was  a child and he worked the Washington run for Amtrak.  I remember many a story about this station and city from my childhood.

Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window...it is a clear, crisp fall day.  Perfect.  Perhaps my most favorite type of weather ever.

I am thinking...that subbing this year is going to be a very good thing.

I am thankful for...the pesky puppy who is urging me to take her out at this very moment!  She is a good girl.

From the kitchen...homemade chicken pie,  corn chowder & broccoli chicken & ziti,

I am wearing....my favorite blue shorts and a comfortable black t-shirt.

I am creating... a healthier lifestyle... I'm trying anyway.

I am going...to get another coat of paint on the walls over at 40 M today.  I hope it will look ok when we are done.

I am wondering... how my friend M is doing.  I think I'll try to call her this afternoon.

I am reading...not much other than political posts and articles.  We are going to start a daily reading practice.  I can't wait to just pick something and read.

I am looking forward to...teaching in my friend NS's class next week.  I'll be in her class on Wednesday and Friday.  Yay me!

I am learning... to not live in a place of fear.  Do you know what I mean?

Around the house...well we are back in the 'school year' mode so things are a bit messy and chaotic.  I'm working on it though.

A favorite quote for today...

a FB friend posted the following; and while it is not a typical quote her words speak  to me and I hope they will speak to you as well....

"Just maybe the average person in Libya is not a terrorist. Maybe they love their children and enjoy a good meal and love their god just like any average person. Maybe they do appreciate the help we provided in their liberation. Maybe they do value this tenuous but strengthening relationship with America. Maybe it really is a small terrorist group retaliating for the latest killing of another one of their top leaders. Maybe they don't judge all Americans based on what a few hate filled film makers did. Maybe too many Americans judge them based on the despicable actions of a few. Maybe the only way to end terrorism for good is to create a situation, as this ambassador helped to do, where the people of a country are able to believe they can rise up against evil. I'm listening to McCain right now talk about the overwhelming support for democracy by the Libyans. Its not pretty but maybe the tide is actually turning. I pray it is so."  MC 2012

One of my favorite things ... teaching children!

A few plans for the rest of the week: painting, splitting up my perennials, planting over at 40 M, cleaning up my own yard,

A photo I'm sharing:

Peace!

The Remembering Continues

It is hard to believe it has been 11 years since 9/11.  September 11, 2001 took so much from so many.   The fabric of our lives changed forever on that day.  Too many families lost loved ones while the rest of our country watched in horror and lost our innocence.  The horror of that day will forever be etched in our minds.   I challenge us to remember the people and not the gore and terror of that day.  While we have all continued on with our lives with minor changes in security the families continue to mourn for the loss of their loved ones.  Over the past several years I have posted my memorial for Joseph Roberto as part of the 2996 Project.  I have visited the 'guest book' on legacy.com in the past and it is so apparent that his family still mourns.  His parents and family continue to leave notes to Joseph in that online memorial.  His story is just one of so many.  I pray for healing for his family and all the families.  Let today be the day that healing begins if it has not yet done so for all those who lost their loved ones.

Joseph Roberto
37 years old
Midland, New Jersey

A Family is
a circle of strength and love.
With every birth and every union the circle grows.
Every joy shared adds more love.
Every crisis faced together
makes the circle stronger.

Joseph "Joe" Roberto was a son, brother, uncle, husband, and father.
He was devoted to his family and his family devoted to him.
He was a friend and colleague.
He maintained a solid work ethic and held himself to high expectations.
He enjoyed life: motorcycles, riding his motorcycle and investigating the battlefields in Virginia and West Virginia, exploring nature with his son, collecting coins, putting up his parents holiday decorations and gathering his own.

He is loved.

When I first received my name from the 2996 project I felt an immediate connection to Joseph Roberto as he shares a variation of my father's name. As I started my research I found it difficult to find much information to share, but I continued to dig and search. Finally I found this site and I learned much more about this person whom we all lost on September 11, 2001. I am honored and humbled to share this tribute today on the 8th anniversary of the greatest loss we have felt on our soil. May the Roberto family be blessed and my God bless the United States of America.

Peace

Our Word View - Change

What is Our Word View?  A collaboration between two friends who lost touch over the years but have reconnected online.  We share a love of the ocean, photography, quotes, animals and family.  Often times our photographic interpretations of our word of the week are very similar.

This week I chose the word change for our photographic interpretation.  I hope you will go over to Our Word View and see what Liz shares this week.

So over the years we have watched the children grow and change.  From the very start they have been the best of friends.  It is amazing how fast time goes by....  one thing that I hope will never change is how close N and n are.... they have there moments, but when push comes to shove they are good friends and would do anything for each other.  I think they are just great kids.

Peace!

Simple Beauty

I love taking photographs of nature.  I find simple beauty through my lens.  Grass, leaves, trees, clouds, butterflies, birds, bugs... you name it and I'll snap it's picture.   On Saturdays I'm going to take the time to share a few of my favorite nature shots.  So here goes.

Some favorites from last year.
