I've learned that life is full of surprises and challenges. No matter what road you travel there will always be something to slow you down, make you work hard and reflect on what is truly important. Everyone's burdens are different, unique to each situation and stage of life. Sometimes I think of the burdens I know others carry and I realize that my burdens are not so bad. It doesn't make me feel better, it just puts everything into perspective.
I have also learned that as we go through our lives we must grab the opportunities that come our way that will bring us some level of happiness. Some days that might mean just sitting and relaxing with a good book. It could mean spending an afternoon with a friend or walking a deserted beach. Often for me it is time spent behind the lens, on my deck or with my children, husband and friends.
This week I took the time to go and visit with my friend C at her house. We were planning on seeing each other but plans needed to be flexible. Rather than walking together, I threw on my bathing suit and headed over to her house. For the first time this summer my suit saw water in her pool! It was glorious! We chatted. I floated. Her family came home and we bantered back and forth. I floated. It was pure bliss! Talking and floating....what is better than that. I was in the water for almost two hours. When I stepped out I was so relaxed. Honestly I have not felt that relaxed in a very long time. We've made a tentative date to float together next week. It is these moments that I cherish.
Peace!
This is where I will share about my daily adventures in motherhood, education, photography, artistic expression, and my love for all things creative. I hope you will come in and stay a while.

Party
Well it was a great 12th birthday party for n this weekend. Four friends came and spent the night. There was loud music, pizza, cake and ice cream, running around outside, twister in the dark, helium balloons, dancing, movies and a late night of talking till the wee hours. All the excitement brought back fond memories from my childhood...
The birthday weekend continues tomorrow! It is the actual day so we'll do something special; bowling, lunch maybe paint your own pottery. It will be fun. It is so hard to believe that twelve years have gone by so fast. I'd like the next twelve to take their time, please.
Peace!

Initiative
Well I've been talking with my sister D over the past few days about initiative and taking action. I'm really good at giving advise but not always the one to listen to my own words of wisdom!
Well today I took action. I've been wanting to go visit my dear friend M who is recovering from a major surgery and is now spending time in rehab before returning home. I've sent notes, but I really wanted to see her. I've hesitated because I didn't want to overstep any boundaries. I've been unsure if she would want to have additional company other than family and very close friends. I think that for me there has also been a level of fear associated with my experiences when Dad was in rehab years ago. Basically I had a bunch of my own baggage that I had to work through before I could push myself and do what I knew I wanted to and should do as a friend. Well I'm pleased to say that I pushed past all the fear and negative self talk(oh her family will be there, she'll be too tired, she probably doesn't want to see me, who am I to presume I should go and see her) and went for a visit today!
It was so good to see my friend M! She is small but looks like she is healing! What a process she has been through. I think that she is incredibly brave and strong. I don't think she sees herself in this light but I most certainly do! She has handled the entire process of her illness, treatment, recovery and then subsequent surgery with such grace. I'm not sure if I know another person quite as grace filled ...
We visited for two hours. I hope that I did not tire her out. I brought her some cards to write to friends and family. I also brought a selection of beach stones. I collect flat gray beach stones because I find them somehow spiritual and comforting. I was hoping she would also enjoy them in this way. She was quite pleased. I hope they bring her hours of enjoyment. We chatted about my life and her recovery. In the end she walked me to the door. It was good.
