Our Word View - Joy

There is so much that brings joy to my life; my children, my husband, my dog, my career ... I could go on.  I guess I am a joyful or joy filled person.  One of the more unique things that bring me joy is the song of the cardinal.  Whenever I hear that distinct song my heart fills with joy as the cardinal represents for me the love and presence of my parents.  I know that might sound strange but it is what I believe.

Our Word View - Hideaway

This was a challenge for me.  I have not been out with my camera much lately due to new work commitments and I couldn't wrap my mind around what image would work for hideaway...that is until I looked through some photos I took on a walk through the Ellisville Harbor State Park.  Mid way through the walk we came to a building that once housed the rangers who oversee the property.  I thought then as I do now that it would be a great hideaway for someone wanting to disappear for a while.  By the looks of things no one had been in the building in quite a long time.  Such a shame.  

Very interesting property. I would love to know more about it's history and the reason why it now seems to be abandoned.

Our Word View - Gregarious

My first inclination for this word was some sort of picture of my daughter n.  She has grown into her gregarious personality.  As a little one she was very slow to warm up to people.  I am happy for her that while maintaining a cautious streak she is able to be outgoing.  The thing is my family is almost always the first inclination for these weekly posts!  As I was perusing my photos from the trip n and I took to Heritage Plantation in Sandwich I came across one of my images taken in the auto museum.  The curators had an old hollywood meets rockstar theme going on.  They used beautiful screen printed sails throughout the display.  It was very interesting.  I would say that Mick certainly fits the bill for the word gregarious.  What do you think?

n and I spent a day at The Heritage Plantation.  What a beautiful place to walk and practice the art of photography.  We only covered a portion of the grounds.  I definitely found myself drawn to the flowers and was intrigued by the plants that were allowed to go to seed in the gardens.  There is both a fragility and strength in these images.

There is something unmatched by the excitement a photographer feels after spending time photographing a subject...any subject and then reviewing those shots.  I am one who takes numerous shots and only looks at those shots once they are downloaded onto my Aperture program. It is in this program that I weed out the good from the bad.  The excitement begins when you see you have captured something special.  Something you didn't even realize was evident in the moment you took the shot.  Here are a few shots that I found after a session outside.

Our Word View - Delicious

This week  the word delicious was chosen for our photographic interpretation.  I hope you will go over to Our Word View and see what Liz shares this week. 

There are so many ways to go with an interpretation of the word delicious.  I have many photos capturing the birthday cakes I have created for my family over the years, then there are the pictures of the treats n and I enjoy from Cupcake Charlie's and we can't forget the images I have taken of Nanny's bread.  When I chose delicious as our word for this week my original intention was to try to do some baking.  Well that didn't happen.   After scrolling through many images I came across an image of my Dad working on on of the two big clambakes we hosted at my childhood home when I was young.  What an amazing feast we had on those occasions!  Lobster, corn, clams, chowder and many grilled delectables.  I have such fond memories of those parties.  We must have had over a hundred people attend.  Family and friends came from far and wide.  I can not take photographic credit for these images.  I am fairly certain they were taken by my cousin TK.  She was then and remains a skilled photographer.  

Those were the days!

Our Word View - COASTLINE

I love how the coastline can take on so many different forms.  There are parts of the beach that I walk that are lined with homes harkening back to a bygone era.  Other areas are sheer cliffs that feel miles away from civilization.  Today I share pictures that feel very nostalgic.  They remind me of my childhood visits to the beach where I shot these photos.

Our Word View - Beautification

Often times you can wander around an historic town and see where beautification projects have been completed.  

Along the main stretch of road that goes into town sits three 'lobster shacks' across from our main beach.  These shacks have been in this spot longer than I can remember.  According to our local paper at least one of the shacks dates back to the early 1890's.  Just recently there has been very real talk about demolishing the lobster shacks.  Locals have raised there voices in protest.  Now the town is trying to figure out just how to beautify and preserve this piece of local history.   

I think there is something extraordinarily beautiful about these structures.
